Cleaning up after your dog isn't exactly the highlight of the day — but it's part of being a responsible pet owner. There are a lot of ways to tackle dog waste removal, from using bags to various pooper scooper tools. One method that has worked surprisingly well for us is using a large, industrial dustpan lined with a garbage bag.
It’s simple, cheap, and makes dog poop clean up way faster and less of a hassle.
Why an Industrial Dustpan?
You can usually find these upright dustpans at places like Lowe’s for around $25. They’re designed for commercial clean-up, so they’re sturdy, big enough to hold a lot, and easy to use with a rake or small shovel.
Lining the pan with a trash bag is the key. It lets you scoop the entire yard, tie off the bag when you're done, and toss it out — no mess, no direct contact, and usually just one trip to the garbage can. That’s what makes it so convenient compared to the more common methods.
How It Compares to Other Approaches
The old-school “Walmart bag on the hand” method still works, especially if you only have a little to clean up. But it’s not always the quickest or most pleasant experience — especially when it's warm out or the poop is, well… fresh.
Smaller pooper scooper tools can also be handy, but they often require several trips to empty out the contents. That might not matter much in small yards or for single-dog homes, but if you’re dealing with a lot of waste, using a lined dustpan really cuts down on time and effort.
A Small Tradeoff: Storage
One thing to keep in mind is that industrial dustpans are a bit bulky. They’re not something you can tuck away in a drawer — you’ll want to hang it in the garage or keep it outside.
If you’d rather not deal with it at all — or you just don’t feel like storing more tools — a pooper scooper service can take it off your hands completely. Many of them offer weekly visits, and if you're in Salt Lake County or Utah County, you can even fill out the form on our website to get started.
This method may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for a cleaner, quicker way to do dog waste clean up, it’s definitely worth trying out. Sometimes, it’s the simple upgrades that make routine chores way easier.
